Who is the Salvation Army?

In 1865 the Salvation Amry was founded by William Booth under a different name and is now a worldwide organisation. In 1878 they changed the name to Salvation Army. At the moment the Salvation Army is active in 126 countries and help thousands of people on a daily basis. These people are for example homeless people, prostitutes, alcohol- or drug addicts and other people who are having a hard time taking care of themselves.

In several cities in the Netherlands, the Salvation Army opened up really hip and cool secondhand shops called ReShare Stores. In these stores, you can clothing and other items (such as Renegade Guru conscious wear).

But that is not all!

Just like us, the Salvation Army has a passion for sustainability and a mission to make the world a better place for people as well as the environment. By recycling clothing and re-using/re-selling them in their ReShare stores, less clothing disappears in the incinerator and it creates nearly 300 workplaces for people who are on the sidelines of our society.

They also prevent C02 emissions and save many litres of water (1kg of cotton stands for 17,000 litres of water) and raw materials because less clothing gets lost in the incinerator. They are constantly looking out for new and better opportunities to improve the clothing collection and processing. For example. starting this year (2018) they have a machine called the FibreSort machine, made possible by the Salvation Army, which is the first machine that can separate pure raw materials. From these pure raw materials that they separated, new products can be made such as pure Organic Cotton tops. This is very good news for the environment because the more we reuse, the less new raw materials need to be produced.
